Abstract

Double immunodiffusion (DID), bentonite flocculation (BF) and circumlarval precipitin (CLP) tests were used for detecting tissue-phase Toxocara vitulorum infection induced experimentally in buffaloes. All these tests detected the antibodies against second stage larval somatic antigen up to 45 days post-infection (DPI). Being easy to perform and accurately interpretable, the DID was considered suitable for testing the duration of antibody response in this study. BF test gave positive results with the antiserum diluted up to 1 :32 and the CLP test showed a maximum titre of 1:8 at 14 DPI. The passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) with micro amount of antigen gave positive reaction even when the antiserum was diluted up to 1: 16.
