Abstract

Japanese quails fed deoiled mustard-cake replacing groundnut-cake at 50 and 100% levels. showed significant decrease of body-weight gain and increase in weight of the thyroid glands. There were also significant decrease of serum protein. protein bound iodine and thyroxine (T4). and increase of cholesterol concentrations in the birds suggesting the goitrogenic properties of the cake at these levels. Pathological lesions featured both colloid and hyperplastic goitre. Birds fed deoiled mustard-cake meal at 30% level showed no goitrogenic syndrome.
