First lactation records of 507 Surti buffaloes, sired by 41 bulls, maintained at Buffalo Project, Livestock Research Station, Vallabhnagar (Rajasthan) were utilized to develop multi-trait selection indices. Ten complete restricted selection indices (RI, to RI,10) were developed by imposing single or 2 trait restrictions on AFC, FSP, FLL and FCI. The index coefficients (b1), expected gene genetic gain (D. H) were compared and it was observed that the complete restriction on FCI would be the most appropnate for genetic improvement. This would produce a desirable genetic change in FLMY (5.5686 kg), AFC (-31.0264 days), FDP (-0.0651 days), FPY (0.0325 kg) and FSP (-0.2024 days).Downloads
