Abstract

Utilization of wheat offal as substitute for maize grain was investigated in 8-week study, with 20 healthy weaner pigs of mixed oreeds and. sexes using 5 weaner swine diets. The diets were DT 1 (control) which contained maize grain as the major source of dietary energy and DT 2, DT 3, DT 4 and DT 5 in which maize was replaced at 25, 50, 75 and 100% levels, respectively, by wheat offial, There were 4 replicates per diet with 1 weanner pig per  replicate. Significant (P<0.05) differences in mean daily feed intake, mean daily body weight gain and feed cost per kg body weight gain among the treatments were found. No significant difference (P>0.05) was observed in feed conversion ratio. Therefore, replacement of maize grain by wheat offal in the diet of weaner pigs is beneficial and most cost effective at 5% level.
