Abstract

Vaginal electrical resistance was recorded in 127 buffaloes belonging to a research farm (n=40), farmers (n=75) induced estrus group (n=12) at the time of insemination, using a commercially available vaginal resistance probe. It varied between 26 and 40 ohms for all the groups. The conception rates to single insemination were highest in all the groups when the VER was between 26-30 ohms and were 80,75 and 100% for the 3 groups whereas, the conception rates were 62.5, 55.17 and 75% when the VER was between 31-35 ohms. At slightly higher VER (36-40 ohms) the conception rates were barely low of 33.33, 19.23 and 0% indicating thereby that inseminating buffaloes at a lower VER of 26-30 ohms clearly had increased the conception rates. Farmers at the AI centers should be advised to bring their animals for insemination at the correct time, preferably 12 hr after estrual onset. Conception rates in farm buffaloes were better reflecting better management and estrus detection.
