The relationship between level of cholesterol and total protein and water temperature and gonad development was studied for Leuciscus cephalus orientalis captured Karasu River (Erzurum- Turkey). Varying degrees of water temperature across the months most significantly affected cholesterol and total protein level. Values obtained during the summer were lower than those obtained during the winter. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) and level of cholesterol and total protein reached the11 peak levels during spawning period from May to July.
