Econometric analysis of technical change in egg production in Karnataka

Abstract

The study utilised the primary data collected from 48 new egg production technology (NEPT) and 79 traditional egg production technology (TEPT) farms selected through multistage random sampling technique during 1998-99 in north Karnataka. Results of the study showed that NEPT farms have obtained 49.48% of more eggs from each bird per cycle of 72 weeks than TEPT farms. Technology (breed) component accounted for 23.11 % of the incrensed output. while the increased input lise under NEPT contributed 26.73%. Among different inputs contributing to the total output growth contribution input feed was high (14.49%). This suggested the importance of well organized sector for producing and distributing quality feed material fbr accelerating egg production. Similarly, adoption of NEPT resulted in gain for all the factors in absolute terms and generated 27.50% of additional employment opportunities over the farmers adopting TEPT.
