Abstract

The pancreas of Indian donkey was situated below the liver extending from 14th to 16th rib on the right side of median
plane. Grossly, it was grayish pink to pale brown, irregularly triangular in shape, with an average weight of 95.0+-0.25 g,
which accounted for 0.175% of the body weight. Histologically, it was covered by a thin capsule. which entered the gland
and divided in to different lobules of varying sizes an shapes. The parenchyma consisted of acini and group of small cells
forming exocrine and endocrine portion of the gland respectively. The pyramidal shaped acinar cells showed various densities of zymogene granules in the cytoplasm. The interlobular connective tissue septa carried ducts, blood vessels. nerves an ganglion but reticular fibres surrounded the acini. The centroacinar cells in the lumen of acini were fusiform or flattened. The ductular system of the pancreas consisted of intercalated, intralobular interlobular and main excretory duct.
