Abstract

Preputial washing and semen of 36 cattle breeding and 27 buffalo breeding bulls were screened for Campylobaete sp. The preputial washings were collected and inoculated after centrifugation and, filtration onselectiye media. Lander'5 transport emichment media was used to collect the preputial washings which were processed after 6--8 h. The plates were incubated at 37°e temperature under microaerobic environment for 3-4 days. Cmplpylobacter spp. were isolated and identifed on the basis of characteristic colonies, dilute carbol {uschin .staining, motility and biochemical tests. Preputial washings from 7 cattle and 3 buffalo bulls were positive for C. fetus by isolation. Out ,of 15 isolates of C. fetlls isolated, 9 were found to be of C fetus subsp. venerealis and 6 of C. fetus subsp. fetris on the basis 'of bichemical reactions.
