The pars distalis adenohypophysis constituted the largest subdivision of the pituitary gland. The parenchyma comprised the cells arranged in irregular cords, clusters anti follicles intimately related to sinusoids. In haematoxyline and eosin staining 3 cell types were noticed i.e. acidophils. basophils and chromophobes. Acidophils constituted 44-59% cell population of adenohypophysis and were concentrated more in peripheral/ventroperipheral areas. The basophils contributed 13-20% cells of the pars distalis adenohypophysis with maximum in the rostrodorsal areas. Chromophobes were found sparsely distributed throughout the gland with more concentration in rostrodorsal areas.
