Three different types of lyophilized saponified vaccines of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri (M.capri) were prepared for goats (lyophilized saponified whole cell vaccine containing 1 mg protein along with 3 mg saponin (WCI ); lyophilized saponified whole cell vaccine containing 2 mg protein with 3 mg saponin(WC2); and lyophilized saponified sonicated vaccine containing 2 mg protein with 3 mg saponin (SS2)' The vaccinated goats ofall the groups were challenged at 6 months and 1 year duration. A protection of 67% was observed in eachWC2and SS2 vaccinated groups, while 34% in WCI group at 6 months challenge. However, 50% protection was found in each of the 3 vaccinated groups of goats at 1 year challenge. Overall, both the WC2 and SS2 vaccines gave comparable protection. But, the whole cell vaccine was simple and easier in preparation than the sonicated vaccine. Therefore, the WC2vaccine can be used as an immunoprophylactic agent for the control of caprine pleuropneumonia.
