The histoenzymic study was conducted on the prostate gland ofbuffaloes in neonates (day 1to 1 month), prepubertal (6 months to Ilh years) and adult (above 3~ years). The cryostat sections of 12 11m were obtained at -20°C and incubated forphosphatases (AKPase, ACPase, ATPase, G-6-Pase), oxidoreductases (SDH, LDH, G-6-PD, GLD, NADPHdiphorase, 3-B HSD, MAO, CYO) and esterases (AChEase, NSE). The glandular and ductular epithelia showed negative activity for AKPase in all age groups, whereas the activity ofACPase, ATPase and G-6-Pase increased with age. The activity ofoxidoreductases except LDH increased progressively with age. Aweak activity ofNSE and moderate activity ofAChEase in nerve fibres was observed in all age groups.
