An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for the serological diagnosis of ovine brucellosis with purified recombinant outer membrane protein 31 (rOmp31) of Brucella melitensis 16M produced in Escherichia coli. The rOmp 31 ELISA performed with serum samples (n=1152) obtained from organized sheep farm from Northern India showed a seroprevalence of 11.45%. Results were compared with the traditional Rose Bengal Plate test. Thus, these results confirmed the importance of omp31 as a suitable antigen for the serological diagnosis of ovine brucellosis.
