Abstract

Changes in uterine tissue were studied histopathologically after delivery of fetus and administration of different drugs to check uterine infections in dystocia affected buffaloes. Status of uterine epithelium, uterine glands, cell:u1ar infiltration, overall inflammation and tissue repair process were evaluated. Administration of intra-uterine E.coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) @300 Jlg resulted in higher tissue infiltration of polymorphonuclear and mononuclear cells, increased glandular activity and fast tissue repair process while the changes following antibiotic administration were contrarily slow with no tissue repair process evident ti1148 h. It is therefore, advised to use uterine immunomodulatory drugs following fetal delivery in dystocia affected buffaloes to clear uterine infections and hasten tissue repair.
