Abstract

Detection ofschistosome antigen in the tissue sections is not only of diagnostic value but may throw light on comparative susceptibility of men and animals to a given schistosome species. Therefore, immunoperoxidase method, alien to ELISA, was applied using lung and intestine sections of known schistosome positive and negative field goats as well as laboratory control goats of both categories. All the intestine scrapping and hatching positive goats and intestine positive but hatching negative goats were positive by immunoperoxidase method using intestine and all but one using lung sections providing 84-100% sensitivity. However, it yielded only 66.6% specificity in laboratory negative goats which lowered down further when tested in parasitologically negative field goats.
