Abstract

Present study was undertaken on 525 kids of Kutchi goats maintained at Western Regional Research center, Avikanagar Rajasthan. Selection indices were developed by incorporating 3,6,9 months body weight and weight gains at 3-6,3-9 and 3-12 months weight gains in different combinations. These were developed assigning economic weights to the traits and without weights, Selection indices combining body weight at 3 and 9 months from both methods showed the highest efficiency (0.660) for weighted indices and (1.404) for weight free indices indicating that selection on the basis of 3 and 9 months weight could have resulted in higher improvement in body weight at 12 months of age.
