Abstract

Isolates (9) of Pasteurella multocida were obtained from 409 samples from various animal species. On the basis of biotyping, 7 of the isolates could be classified as P. multocida subspecies multocida while the 2 belonged to P, multocida subspecies gallicida. Multiplex PCR using the 2 primer sets (KMTI SP6-KMTIT7) and (KTSP61 -KTT72) produced 2 amplification products from the bovine isolates and only 1 product from the poultry and sheep isolates. The antibiotic sensitivity pattern of the isolates revealed that all the isolates were sensitive to enrofloxacin, pefloxacin, gentamicin and chloramphenicol. Most of the isolates exhibited resistance to co-trimoxazole. erythromycin and streptomycin.
