Abstract

The data on 1720 indigenous piglets obtained in 280 farrowings at the AICRP on pigs, College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati from 1981 to 1991, were utilized for the comparative evaluation of the performance of foundation, non-inbred and inbred stocks with respect to their reproductive and productive traits. Foundation stock was significantly (P&ltO.O1) inferior to both non-inbred and inbred stock for all the reproductive and productive traits. The regression of reproductive and productive traits on the inbreeding coefficient of dams indicated that there was no adverse effect of inbreeding of dams on their productive and reproductive traits. The level of inbreeding of dams in the present study (5.82%) had no undesirable effect on the economic traits studied.
