Role of information technology in dairy science: a review

A comprehensive review of information technology (IT) applications in dairy science is made in this paper. The papar presents a broad analysis of applications of frontier technologies, viz. decision support system, expert system, geographical information system, artificial neural network and fuzzy logic as well as web based information system in dairying. The paper has also highlighted some potential areas like global positioning system, Voronoi diagram and natural language interface to tap the IT applications in dairying. The review evidently reveals that developed countries of the world have relatively much better spontaneous IT-based systems in place compared to developing countries like India in dairy science. Joint efforts of Governments departments, academic and research institutions, and industries are required to synchronize and streamline the ongoing efforts towards the applications of IT in dairying through standardization of formats for smooth flow of information. All the stakeholders including farmers, researchers, entrepreneurs and policy planners will be benefited at large through adoption of latest IT tools in dairying.Downloads
