West Africa dwarf weaner goats (24) comprising both sexes, aged 5-6 months, and weighing 5.6to 8.4 kg were alotted to 4 euperimental diets in a completely randomized design to determine the effects of feeding soybean milk residue [SMR), cowpea seed wastes (CSW), corn starch residue (CSR) and groundnut-cake-corn bran (GNC-C) (as control diet) on the blood parameters. temperature and carcass characteristics of WAD goats in 12-week trial. Red blood cell count (RBC) range between 7.30±O.91 and 7.85±0.72 10 mm, white blood cell count (WBC) range between 11.72±2.65 and 13.02± 2.24 10³mm and packed-cell volume( PCV) ranged between 30.66±2.69 and 33.58±0.39 in all the experimental animals. The average daily body temperature was significantly influenced by the dietary treatments, though highest values were obtained with animals fed SMRD (39.23°C) diets. The highest blood weight chilled dressing percentage and head weight values were recorded for the animals fed CSW. The weight of mesenteric fat was highest in GNC-C fed than other animals. The dressing percentage and mean weights of the liver, neck, kidney fat, heart, lung and spleen were not significantly influenced by the dietary treatments, though highest values were obtained with the animals fed GNC-C diets. The study shows that judicious use of household waste such as soybean milk residue, cowpea seed waste and cornstarch residue can effectively replace groundnut-cake,corn bran and wheat offal.
