Recent advances in molecular biological and other instrumentation technologies have led to development of more precise and cheaper methods of disease diagnosis and a better understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms and molecular epidemiology of viral diseases of animals. ELISA based techniques using highly specific monoclonal antibodies and PCR/RT-PCR and genetic analysis of viruses are being used for diagnosis of viral diseases, but large scale field application will require harmonization of these test procedures. The application of these advanced techniques for diagnosis of viral diseases in our country has been reviewed.Downloads
