Ticks and tick-borne diseases cause losses in billions of dollars world-wide. Mainly chemicals are used but ticks become drug-resistant. Important tick control strategies, viz, immunological methods, biological control and herbal pesticides, have been discussed in this review. Under immunological methods use of salivary gland antigens, concealed antigens and commercial vaccines were discussed. Trends in recent research were also elaborated. Current interest is in proteins likely to be crietical in host parasitic interaclion. Pathogens, parasiticides and predators for the biological control of animal pests were discussed. Ethno veterinary knowledge and practices play a major role in control of of animal pests.Downloads
