Abstract

Appropriate selection of tree crop combinations and the proper management and cultural practices of trees as well as crops play an important role for the success of any agroforestry venture. This fact has been proved on farmer’s field having different management practices. The agroforestry trees need intensive care like the agricultural crops. Site selection is another criteria that should be considered duringt tree selection. Poplar can be successfully grown in riverine areas having fertile well drained soil with intensive management. But Eucalyptus and Melia can be grown on a wide range of soil and management conditions. Trees for industrial use are catching the attention of farmers. Planting of trees on farm lands will not only improve the economic and social status of farmers but also help to improve the ecological conditions of an area. Moreover, agroforestry is considered as one of the economical viable options for crop diversification in the state.
