Abstract

Lac is useful in many ways. Its cultivation is mainly confined to the conventional lac host trees of palas, ber and kusum. Although faced by several problems, the lac growers still continue this profession of lac cultivation. Scientific cultivation gives higher yield, and ensures sustainable production of lac. The NRCAF, Jhansi alongwith the Indian Institute of Natural Resins, Ranchi has started lac cultivation programmes on farmersí field at various places thus encouraging the farmers to take up lac cultivation in full earnest.
