Abstract

Weather related extremes like heat and cold waves, drought and flood has now become norm rather than exception in view of their increasing occurrence and pose added challenge to food security, particularly, in a country, where economy rely heavily on agriculture dominated by small scale and subsistence farming. People’s livelihoods in this sector are especially exposed to weather extremes. Subsistence farmers are severely impacted by these weather events taking food security at higher risk. In order to maintain regional rop stability and sustainability, their long term study to detect trend in their frequencies and magnitude at regional level is becoming very important. This will help in searching effective crop based mitigation strategies, hydrological planning and disaster management.
