High yielding perennial grasses: A solution to the green fodder shortage in rainfed areas
41 / 49
Abstract
Due to heavy grazing pressure in the rainfed areas, the naturalgrasslands are badly degraded. More land can be brought under fodder cultivation as there is ample scope for this, since large land area is still available. However, the need is to grow high yielding grasses which in comparison to local grasses are perennial in nature, needed in less volume, contain protein upto 11%, can be grown under rainfed conditions and have more productivity per unit area.
