Estimating Cost for Production of Soluble Milk Protein Concentrate70 (MPC 70)

Abstract

This study has been aimed to estimate the cost of production for soluble, medium protein, milk protein concentrate powder (MPC70), which contains 70 percent protein content on dry matter basis. Although, solubility of such powders are usually poor, but it has excellent solubility (> 95%).  Apart from production conditions simulation, this work, emphasizes on the estimation of production cost of soluble MPC70 based on several assumptions main being   300 days of plant run producing 4187.14 kg MPC70 per day. Several heads such as land and building, plant and machinery, manpower, administration, utilities, raw material, manufacturing, marketing and distribution etc. were taken into account during the estimating the expenditure for the MPC70 production in a running plant.  Finally, the cost of production of soluble MPC70 which have excellent reconstitutional, physical and functional properties apart from solubility was estimated as Rs. 260.36/ 500 g which is lesser than the cost of similar 500 g product (Rs. 350) without desired properties.
