Abstract

The technology for production of hydroponics green fodder involves growing of plants without soil, but in water or nutrient rich solution in a greenhouse for a short duration of approximately seven days. The use of nutrient solution for the growth of the hydroponics fodder is not essential and only the tap water can be used. The hydroponics green fodder is produced in greenhouses, which can be hi-tech or low cost devices. The low cost greenhouses (devices or shade net structure) for production of hydroponics green fodder can be of bamboo or wood or MS or GI pipes or brick masonry or lean-to-shade net greenhouse; in which the irrigation can be made by micro-sprinklers (manual or automatic) or a knapsack sprayer at frequent intervals. In India, maize should be the choice grain for production of hydroponics green fodder.
