The study makes an attempt to document the increase in labour use after adoption of crossbred cattle by the dairy farmers in Assam to indicate the employment prospect of cattle crossbreeding. The study has used tabular and regression analysis for a data set of 245 sample farmers (135 adopters of crossbred cattle and 108 non-adopters) collected from three districts of Assam. The results from the study point out that adoption of high yielding crossbred cattle has higher labour use effect across farm size, farm operations and gender. The regression results also confirm that adoption of crossbred cattle is significantly associated with higher labour requirements. The study recommends taking up appropriate policy measures for laying more emphasis on the crossbreeding programme in the state to partially address the problem of unemployment.
