Vol. 37 No. Specialissue (2020): Journal of Oilseeds Research

Focus and Scope
This scientific and technical journal is dedicated to bring together all persons, organizations and institutions interested in or engaged in the field of oilseeds research, development, oil technology and allied products connected with oilseeds. This would provide the workers a forum for exchange of their views as well as scientific information. The aim of the journal is to promote the dissemination and utility of the scientific information generated in the field of vegetable oil production. Also, the journal periodically publishes the summary of the work carried out in specific fields so that such reviews provide overall idea to the readers interested in a particular field. Direct beneficiaries of the Journal include scientists, technologists, policy makers, industrialists, entrepreneurs interested in undertaking up-scaling of the technologies in the field of oilseeds and allied products. The journal is committed to follow the ethics of scientific publishing and is evolving continuously through adoption of newer monitoring and evaluation schemes. Journal is also committed to up-holding the standard of scientific and professional proficiency as well as research, academic and publication standards.
The Journal of Oilseeds Research publishes research articles, short communications, and invited reviews regularly on all aspects of oilseeds. Apart from these regular articles, the journal also publishes - meeting reports, research accounts, correspondence, technical notes, meeting reports, commentaries, research news, book reviews, opinions, historical comments, and education point as and when such articles are received.
Peer Review Process
The articles are received from the authors through email at the journals email address editorisor@gmail.com. All the articles received will be subjected to blind peer review process as outlined below.
Step 1. Receipt of manuscript and acknowledgement: Once the manuscript is received (through email or in rare cases, as hard copy), the contents will be reviewed by the editor/associate editors to assess the scope of the article for publishing in JOR. If the write up is within the scope of the journal, a manuscript (MS) number is assigned and the same will be intimated to the authors. If the MS is not within the scope and mandate of JOR, then the article will be rejected and the same communicated to the authors.
Step 2. Assigning and sending MS to referees: Suitable referees will be selected from the panel of experts and the MS (soft copy) will be sent to them for their comments in a standard format of evaluation is provided to the referees (a copy enclosed as Annexure I) for evaluation along with the standard format of the journal articles and the referees will be given 4-5 week time to give their comments. If the comments are not received, reminders, with a periodicity of one week, will be sent to the referees for expediting the reviewing process. If the response is not received after two reminders, they will be deemed un-assigned and the article will be sent to other reviewers.
Step 3. Communication of referee comments to authors for revision: Once the referee comments and MS (with suggestions/ corrections) are received from the referees, depending on the suggestions, the same will be communicated to the authors with a request to attend to the comments. If the referees suggest no changes and recommend the MS for publication, then the same will be communicated to the authors and the MS will be taken up for editing purpose for publishing. Authors will be given stipulated time to respond and, based on their request, additional time will be given for attending to all the changes as suggested by referees. In case the referees suggest that the article cannot be accepted for publication in the journal, then the same will be communicated to the authors with proper rationale, reasons and justification as opined by the referees as well as by the editors.
Step 4. Sending the revised MS to referees: Once the authors send the revised version of the articles, the same will be sent to the referees (who had reviewed the article in the first instance) for their comments and further suggestions regarding the acceptability of publication.
Step 5. Sending the MS to authors for further revision: In case, the referees suggest further modifications, then the same will be communicated to the authors to incorporate the changes. If the referees suggest acceptance of the MS for publication, then the MS will be accepted for publication in the journal and the same will be communicated to the authors. Rarely, at this stage also, MS would be rejected if the referees are not satisfied with modifications and/or the reasoning provided by the authors. If accepted, acceptance letters will be sent to authors.
Step 6. Second time revised articles received from authors and decision taken: In case the second time revised article satisfies all the queries raised by referees, then the MS will be accepted and if not satisfied the article will be rejected. The accepted MS will be taken for editing process where emphasis will be given to the language, content flow and format of the article.
Step 7. Galley-proof version of the articles will be sent to authors for final corrections: Then the journal issue will be slated for printing and also the pdf version of the journal issue will be hosted on journal webpage.
Publication Frequency
Journal of Oilseeds Research is published quarterly by the Indian Society of Oilseeds Research
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Brief Introduction
Indian Society of Oilseeds Research (ISOR) began to publish biannual scientific Journal of Oilseeds Research from 1984, which is a unique Journal in the country publishing scientific papers/reviews on all aspects of annual & perennial oilseed crops. This is the only Journal that is dedicated to the oilseed research, catering to the needs of researchers, students, academicians and policy makers, by supplying updated information on various aspects of oilseeds research. So far, in the past 37 years, the journal is being published every year without any break. Based on the increase in the number of manuscripts received as well as the increased members of the society, the journal is being published quarterly (March, June, September, and December of every year) since 2016. Also with the constant guidance of honorary members of ISOR, and unstinted efforts of the editorial boards of the journal, not only did the pattern as well as the quality of the Journal improved but also the NAAS rating of the journal: 3.97 to 5.02. It is being consistently maintained at this level since the last three years.
The Journal is not only published in print form but also the pdf versions of all the issues of the journal are also posted on the webpage of the Indian Society of Oilseeds Research http://isor.in. Thus the entire content of the journal is available in public domain and is downloadable. So far (till June 2020 issue), the journal has published 1698 research articles, 27 reviews, 1058 short communications, Â one commentary, two meeting reports, and three other miscellaneous items such as obituary, book reviews, etc., covering different aspects of vegetable oil research. Recently, to increase the horizon of scientific reporting, the journal has started to include other types of articles such as - research accounts, correspondence, technical notes, meeting reports, commentaries, research news, book reviews, opinions, historical comments, and education point in addition to the types that are being regularly published. Since its inception in 1983, the Society has expanded continuously and has 1452 life members, 10 annual members, and 4 student annual members till date. The Society has honored the personnel who have rendered special services to the progress of the oilseed sector in the country and the life members have been honored with the recognition as Fellows of ISOR for their contributions to oilseed research and development in the country. Best research papers published in the Journal of Oilseeds Research are recognized and suitably awarded by the ISOR. The Society has also been organizing national and international Seminars/ Symposia/Conferences regularly: 9 national seminars, 2 International conferences, 2 brainstorming sessions, and 3 Dr M.V. Rao endowment lectures have been organized so far. The society is instrumental in bringing out proceedings of all the meetings and, also, has published intermittent publications.
